Theresearchersarguethatteachersneedtochangethemessagestheygiveteenagers.“Whatwe’vefoundcertainlyisthatalevelofstressisincreasedbycertainsortsofteachingpracticesthatfocusonfearoffailureandparentalpressure,”hesaid.
Teachersoftenfocusontellingpupilsthatiftheyfailtogetgoodscores,theywillnotgetajob,orbeabletogotocollege.Insteadtheyshouldfocusonthebenefitsoflearning,Dr.Putwainadded.
Hesaidtheresearchshowedrelaxationexercisescouldhelppupilsiftheywereofferedfarenoughinadvanceofexams.
